Major Vocal Intervention...? Must Be Done!

I've been religiously watching all of the available American and Canadian reality shows concerning vocalists.

And now, finally, I stumbled upon a show for children and teenagers right "in my own backyard" in Canada.

I've been occasionally watching auditions, which are pretty much cloning the auditions for American and, used to be, Canadian Idols.

However, I have to admit that to my pleasant surprise, the judges were very sweet and positive with all of the kids - the good ones and not so good ones.

On the other hand, though, that superficial sweetness, in my opinion, cause them to make some misjudgements with respect of some kids talents.

I found that those who they chose - the top six so far - were not necessarily the best ones I've seen auditioning.

However, the worst was yet to come.

Now, they were showing the "true reality" on topics of vocal coaching, choreography, makeup and fashion.

It all began with vocal coaching.

What was shown are the regular, in my opinion, non-sensical exercises, which are definitely not leading to any, technically speaking, vocal development.

After that, the young participant had to rehearse the song under the guidance of the vocal coach.

What I derived from listening was a demand (sing louder, you can do it, come out of your shell, and something else along the same lines), which also sounded as a criticism, as the young singer was not able to achieve the demand of the vocal coach.

One of the little girls said, "I would love to do that, but nobody ever showed me how to."

Isn't that the truth that just came out of the "babe's mouth"...?

In conventional vocal coaching (and this one was not any different) nobody ever said, or advised, how to achieve their demands and the demands of the standards of the so called professional field.

Everybody is forever criticizing, scolding and demanding.

In my opinion, they are trying to cover their own incompetency and thus, projecting it all on their innocent proteges.

Very often, it leads not only to discouraging and shattering the dreams of the artist to be, but also to mild or even severe vocal problems, which are always associating and going hand in hand with the psychological problems.

The artist, young or older, lose their confidence and zest to pursue their singing career any further.

In this case, they become vocally impaired and being afraid to continue their "vocal drive".

It takes the integration and synergy between mental, physical, emotional and vocal components to achieve the performance of the wholesome mechanism, which should be in place to "drive" the voice to its absolute performance - firstly technically and then, nevertheless, artistically.

That said, now, and needless to say, before, the approach to the person and the voice, which identifies the person and reflects the person's state of being, should be totally holistic.

Conventional vocal coaching, so to speak, works on the voice and in the majority of times, that voice becomes damaged, due to vigorous and dangerous vocal exercises, which are doing nothing but producing the pain and strain on one's vocal anatomy.

In my opinion, the major vocal intervention must be done, or else we will produce more and more "vocal invalids" whose mental state, then, might become also in question.

DANGER: BEWARE OF VOCAL INCOMPETENCE AND VOCAL ABUSE!
PRESERVE YOUR VOCAL ANATOMY AND YOUR SANITY!
